About

ABOUT ME

I have 19 years of experience in education, with 11 years in administration.
I have leadership experiences at the elementary, middle, high, and district levels. In addition, I have taught and led in both urban and rural settings.

I hold a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Capella University, along with a Master’s in Educational Leadership and a Bachelor’s degree in Middle Grades Education and Communications from Georgia College & State University and Wesleyan College, respectively.

Currently, I am serving as the Principal of Henderson Middle School in Butts County, Georgia. In this role, I have led initiatives that resulted in significant improvements in school culture and academic performance. Previously,
I was the Principal at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School in Bibb County, where I successfully guided the school off the Turnaround list within two years, helping to improve student behavior and school climate and culture.

In addition to my leadership role in education, I have actively engaged in advocacy and public speaking at various conferences, where I share insights and strategies related to educational leadership and student support. I have presented or engaged with others at events such as the NAESP/NASSP Advocacy Conference, Capitol Hill, the White House, the U.S. Department of Education, the SSTAGE Promising Practices Conference, GAEL, GASSP Fall Conference, and other events, where I focused on navigating the new educational landscape post-COVID-19, addressing the social-emotional needs of students, and advocating for increases in our Federal budgets (Title I and Title II).

While serving as an Executive Board Member of GASSP and as a former Board Member for NASSP, I contribute to shaping policies and initiatives that support educators and enhance student learning across the state and nationally. My commitment to educational equity and excellence has led to features in notable publications, including NPR, the Wall Street Journal, and several educational journals, where I share insights on educational leadership and the importance of meeting the diverse needs of students. Through my advocacy efforts and public speaking engagements, Capitalize aim to inspire fellow educators and policymakers to create meaningful change within our schools.

Throughout my career, I have been honored with several awards that speak to my commitment to educational excellence. I led my schools to win the 2024 GASSP Breakout School Award and the SSTAGE 2020 and 2023 STAR Awards for Promising Practices in MTSS implementation. Additionally, I was named the GASSP Middle School Principal of the Year in 2023 and the 2012 William Hubbard Middle School Teacher of the Year in the Monroe County School System.
